Amicola fall’s
Amicalola Falls is a 729-foot (222 m) waterfall on Amicalola Creek in Dawson County, Georgia, United States. It the highest waterfall in Georgia and is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia.[1] The name "Amicalola" is derived from a Cherokee language term ama uqwalelvyi, meaning "tumbling waters." The falls are the centerpiece of Amicalola Falls State Park .
I thought it was a great experience but walking all those steps was exhausting…
THE DEEPER STORY 🌊
That 729-foot drop makes Amicalola the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast — and “those steps” have a number: 604 of them, climbing right up beside the spray. The Cherokee name says it plainly: ama uqwalelvyi, “tumbling waters.”
Here’s the part most visitors miss: this park is the front door of the Appalachian Trail. The 8.5-mile Approach Trail starts behind the visitor center and climbs to Springer Mountain, where the real trail begins — roughly 2,190 miles to Maine. Every spring, thousands of thru-hikers climb the exact stairs we did. The difference: they’re carrying 30-pound packs, and they keep walking for six months.
